General Function:

Under no supervision or assistance, perform mechanical engineering tasks on fast-paced programs. Collaborate with engineering peers, senior engineers, and program managers to help define project scope and perform project management tasks. Lead projects and work independently and within a team to complete engineering tasks on schedule and budget. Communicate effectively to accomplish tasks and support others in accomplishing their assignments. Contribute to writing and reviewing technical documents including reports, test plans, and proposals.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical designs for rocket propulsion systems
  • Design mechanical systems that manage high-temperature gasses
  • Perform rocket motor sizing and performance assessments
  • Perform and review design trade studies, identify risks, and perform Monte Carlo simulations
  • Create designs with CAD models and participate in design reviews
  • Conduct and review structural and thermal FEA on rocket motor components and assemblies
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, and tolerance analyses
  • Lead hardware assembly and testing activities
  • Peer review mechanical designs with input for manufacturing, processing, assembly, and procurement
  • Perform project management functions, schedules, budgets, task assignments, program reviews
  • Work directly with technicians and suppliers to assure engineering requirements are met
  • Interact with customers on technical matters and prepare and present technical material
  • Support business development in technical meetings
  • Other related job duties, as assigned

 

Experience:

  • Required: Seven (7) years to 10 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Preferred: Rocket motor design and testing

 

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree required in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university or equivalent years of experience.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree required in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university or equivalent years of experience.

 

Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and experience with Visio, and Project
  • Proficient with CAD software, SolidWorks preferred
  • Understanding of engineering project management and reporting
  • Experience in managing other engineers and reporting program status to program office
  • Proven ability to successfully operate in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Ability to recognize workloads of self and others and delegate tasks to junior staff and peers as needed
  • Willingness to seek-out and assume increasing responsibilities as work load changes
  • Aptitude for working with mechanical and electrical systems

 

Other:

  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time
